Rocket celebrates International Women’s Day

Did you know that today is International Women’s Day? It is a celebration of respect and appreciation for women’s economic, political and social achievements. Each year around this time thousands of events are held throughout the world to inspire women and celebrate their achievements. In fact, in many countries International Woman’s Day is a recognized holiday. Within the Rocket global community, it is an official holiday in our Russian offices!

Last year we raised awareness by celebrating March as International Women’s month. Several Rocket offices hosted a screening of the critically acclaimed, inspirational documentary entitled “Girl Rising.” This was followed with table discussions about how Rocket can work to make a difference for the women within our local and international Rocket community as well as for women in the communities where we live.

This year the International Women’s Day theme is “MAKE IT HAPPEN.” At Rocket we plan to participate through our partnership with Dress for Success, a global not-for-profit organization that promotes the economic independence of disadvantaged women. They provide professional attire along with a network of support and the career development tools to help women thrive in work and in life.

women at rocketThis partnership had its start with a team of Rocketeers attending last December’s Leadership Summit. Our Rocket volunteer team spent the afternoon at the Dress for Success Boston chapter, helping to sort and organize donated business outfits.

We will be coordinating donation drives at Rocket offices within range of a Dress for Success local chapters. During these donation drives Rocketeers can drop off women’s business apparel, shoes and accessories. Holding these local drives gives Rocket the opportunity to give back to their communities, but most importantly, to support women in need and to help them take a crucial first steps towards a better future.

Our plan is to coordinate these drives in the month of June with Dress for Success. If you would like to learn more about the organization and other ways to volunteer please go to this link: http://bit.ly/1zY1WZg

Great work. Hopefully your efforts will inspire other businesses to do the same.
