Discover-blog-imageToday, the healthcare system is under enormous pressure to spend health-care dollars more wisely and improve patient care. Tools such as Rocket Discover can help medical professionals by delivering business intelligence directly to healthcare providers, right within their browsers. There’s no need to rely on dedicated analysts, who may in the same office, or possibly hundreds (or thousands) of miles away.

With Rocket Discover, healthcare professionals are able to see the whole picture on individual patients or groups, and coordinate treatment so patients receive the best medical care. Here are a few possible uses.

Monitor patient care

Suppose there is a group of patients with pneumonia or another infectious disease. How can doctors see who hasn’t filled their prescription, who needs a follow-up phone call after being discharged from the hospital, or who requires a blood test or post-operative visit? Medicare and Medicaid have made it a national priority to reduce patient re-admissions to hospitals; hospitals are penalized for excessive patient re-admissions. Rocket Discover is a tool that provides hospitals with clear, actionable information so patients spend less time on hospital floors.

Find the best treatment

Physicians may approach treatment differently. With Rocket Discover, they can load in some data and compare the outcomes. Doctors might prescribe different drugs for osteoporosis. With Discover, it’s easy to analyze which drug is more successful with elderly women. And if one doctor discovers a more successful, less expensive  drug or approach, then others need to know about it. Discover makes it easy to share charts and chat about them.

Promote healthier lifestyles

With Rocket Discover, professionals can zero in patient populations that could benefit from nutrition counseling or help in quitting smoking. After drilling down on that group, health care providers can reach out and connect them to medical services. Rocket Discover helps spot patients who could benefit from working  with physicians, dieticians and exercise physiologists so they lose weight and live a healthier lifestyle.

Control medical costs

With Rocket Discover, insurance providers can compare charges for similar treatments in different hospitals, so they can ensure that they’re billed appropriately. Department heads can ask infinite questions and see the answers in front of them, right away. For example, which diagnosis code is most problematic for reimbursement? Which high-risk patients are most likely to suffer a relapse? And if patients are readmitted to the hospital, what failed? Was it the treatment, discharge plan, or not enough patient follow-through?

With Rocket Discover, hospitals and physicians have an extra tool to improve patient care and promote their own financial health.

i am curious as to who you are collaborating with regarding this particular tool that you are putting out there or that you have put out there. What health care sources are you receiving the Intel from. Many of the Analysts are not far away but actually very close to the system and very knowledgeable. A good resource for a system such as this if it is what I think it is. Dead weight in Medicare and Medicaid system has more to do with waste as does lack of education of health care professionals (frontline workers)on ICD coding. Have your sources been in hospitals in England etc. ? I am curious what there thoughts on comparably.

    Dear Kathy,

Thank you for your interest in Rocket Discover and its applications in healthcare in the U.S., England, or around the world. You are absolutely right that many analysts work very close to the healthcare networks they serve – researching, analyzing and reporting on patient care, health outcomes, and health costs. It seems like you have a lot of experience in the health system, and we would be very interested in talking to you and hearing more of your insights on data analysis in patient care. Let us know how we can get in touch with you! jcammarano@rocketsoftware.com

    Regards,
    Julianna
