Storage Management
Storage management is always a challenge, but the challenge is more acute when the data being stored is unstructured. Unstructured data isn’t just hard to store; studies show that most of this data often isn’t being used, but hasn’t been moved to secondary storage. Rocket Arkivio Autostor enables organizations to receive the efficiency and ROI of an effective storage management solution. It collects data on storage usage in a heterogeneous environment and uses the information to improve the storage management process.
Volume groups, file groups, and file location groups
Rocket Arkivio Autostor organizes resources into three logical groups: volume groups, file groups, and file location groups. Groups allow an administrator to set policies based on categories. For instance, medical files often need to comply with HIPAA guidelines, and they can be grouped accordingly. Volume groups are logical groups of files that can be monitored and managed through policies. Arkivio automatically alerts the administrator of new volumes and makes it easy to apply existing policies. Volume groups are useful for storage management, identifying overused servers, and assisting in the administration of distributed storage environments.
File grouping is flexible and configurable, allowing files to be grouped by parameters like last accessed date or last modified date. File grouping permits custom reporting, as in grouping data by last accessed date and then using the grouping to produce a report of unused data.
Grouping can be invaluable for storage management. Not only is grouping useful for storage-related reporting; file groups provide the ability to classify data according to its business value. This allows Arkivio to properly route files based on their importance.
File location groups permit selecting directory trees from across any combination of volumes and servers, providing the ability to associate data from different servers while retaining the granularity of the individual directory trees.
Rocket Arkivio Autostor reports
Rocket Arkivio Autostor provides a comprehensive set of reports that provide insights into the storage environment. Resource usage reports display current information about storage usage. Reports are available detailing space consumption for each storage device. Data usage reports provide current space usage for files and information such as last accessed date. Administrators can see files that have not been accessed recently per storage device. Policy monitoring reports include capacity monitoring reports.
More advantages of Rocket Arkivio Autostor
Arkivio monitors storage usage levels and usage patterns. It issues alerts if it detects potential storage capacity issues.
Arkivio can scale up to billions of files.
Arkivio is agentless and quick to deploy. It offers intuitive web-based administration tools to simplify your essential storage management tasks.
Arkivio makes it easy to implement a multi-vendor, tiered storage architecture; apply data retention policies for compliance purposes; and optimize backup and disaster recovery processes.
An environment without efficacious storage management mechanism isn’t just using storage ineffectively. Backups take longer and consume more storage resources. Rocket Arkivio Autostor ensures that storage management is done right and that an organization enjoys the full benefits out of its data.
