Ask Rocket! Kickoff

While Rocket Software has always been a customer-centric company, a few months back we asked ourselves, “Is there more we can be doing to engage with our customers?” The Ask Rocket Q&A project is just one of the many new answers we have for that question.

Ask Rocket is quarterly project that we’re kicking off today. Its goal is to provide you, our customer, with an opportunity to ask our Rocket leadership team questions. You talk to our customer care teams and your account managers, but this is an opportunity to talk to the individuals driving the strategy and direction of the company.

For this first edition of Ask Rocket, we picked questions we received through our sales team and from our regular feedback surveys. For upcoming Ask Rocket installments, we encourage you to send in your own questions.

Now onto the Rocket answers!

The first question goes to Jay Leader, our SVP, Chief Customer Officer

Question: What are you doing for customers to support them during COVID-19?

Jay sent in a video answer you can watch below.

In addition, check out our From Rocket with Love page to learn more about what we’ve been doing to help our community get through this tough time.

Next up, Andy Youniss, our President and CEO was asked:

Question: How does Rocket promote mainframe and IBM i platforms to the younger generation of programmers?

Andy’s answer:

If you couldn’t already tell by the guitars on his back wall, Andy and many other Rocketeers are avid music lovers. Music is a core part of the culture at Rocket Software, and we love getting together to riff and rock out every chance we get. We have so many musicians at Rocket that a few years ago Andy formed The Rocket Band. They play during our holiday parties and at larger company gatherings. Even collecting Rocket Band apparel and swag has become its own little economy!

Chris Wey, President of our Power Systems Business Unit received the next question:

Question: How do you define modernization?

Chris answered this question in two parts. Below is a more strategic look at what is possible with modernization. In the video, Chris talks about customers who are already leveraging Rocket modernization solutions to drive real business change.

“I was asked as part of our Ask Rocket program to answer the question ‘What is Modernization?’

In product roadmap meetings and customer conversations and discussions with analyst firms, we grapple with that every day here. We begin with a platform that feels anything-but-modern—IBM i—and discuss the myriad ways that perception is wrong.

IBM i is at the core of thousands of companies around the world, from banks to retailers to manufacturing plants. Every single day, our customers are extending this platform in ways that feel decidedly current by:

  • Exploring the cloud options for Power and IBM i platforms, hosting production, development and data protection solutions
  • Applying AI and Machine Learning to applications running on their IBM i systems
  • Identifying ways that automation and integration can expand the reach of IBM i applications and data”

We will be doing another Ask Rocket again later this year. If you have a question for anyone on the Rocket leadership team, you can send in your question by filling out this form. Even if your question is not picked for the blog post, we will get back to you with an answer.
