APT Rocket.Build Academy 2017

Approximately a quarter of a century ago, two young developers were starting their careers. One in the US and another in the UK. Fast forward to 2017. Each is the owner of a successful software company.  Andy Youniss is the President and CEO of Rocket Software and Stuart Shepherd is the Managing Director of APT Solutions Limited. Andy and Stuart have come together to provide an opportunity to UK university students, APT Rocket.Build Academy. This inaugural competition or “hack-a-thon” aims to inspire a new generation of developers, encouraging them to “create and innovate” using a complete MultiValue development platform including:

  • Rocket® UniData, an application development platform used as the foundation for thousands of industry-focused solutions, which includes the option of using the Python development language
  • Rocket® Web DE, a tool that works with UniData for use in web and mobile application development
  • Rocket® Discover, a self-service data preparation, visualization, discovery, and collaboration solution
  • Rocket® System Builder Extensible Architecture (SB/XA), a tool for rapidly building robust business solutions based on modeling business logic

In addition to resources to help students get started and software to work with, this competition reveals unique career options for young developers. It also offers the winners a cash prize of £5,000 and an all-expense paid trip to Boston, MA to join Rocket.Build, an internal hack-a-thon hosted by Rocket Software.

Rocket Software UK director Richard Whomes said “Our customers have told us that attracting and retaining developers with the right skills can be a challenge. We want the APT Rocket.Build Academy to inspire students to choose a career in MultiValue programming and step up to fill this gap. The APT Rocket.Build Academy competition invites students to show off their programming skills and to test their creativity. The opportunities out there are huge and we want to encourage young developers to look at different programming languages and platforms as they build their future careers.”

Hi, I'm the Product Marketing Manager for Rocket MultiValue. I returned to MultiValue in 2014. You see, I started my career right out of grad school with Unidata in downtown Denver. Back then I worked with our hardware partners including DEC, Data General, Sequent, HP and many others! Later I moved to MarComm and Product Marketing. I love being back in MV and in my free time enjoy spending time with my family skiing, hiking and enjoying Colorado.
